Excellent book about four great boxers(Rating: 5) I was a big fan of pro boxing during the late 1970's and most of the 1980's, so my interest in this book is understandable. It focuses on the four biggest stars during that era: Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns & Roberto Duran.
The author comes across as very fair and honest, and the stories he mentions are extremely interesting. It is a very lively book. I learned a lot of new information about the "Four Kings" and about pro boxing during this time. I agree with the author's subtitle..."the Last Great Era of Boxing." Myself, I hardly ever watch the sport anymore.
As a nice bonus, the pro records of each fighter is included at the end of the book.
This is a very Good Book!! Please also read..."Boxing's Greatest Interviews!!"(Rating: 5) This book is a very good read about four all-time great fighters; Leonard, Hagler, Hearns and Duran. I especially like the fact that the author had taken the time to actually interview ALL FOUR of the Kings to get their exacr perspective on each of their nine fights together. I do feel that there should have been more time spent on the potential Kings like; Aaron Pryor, Mike McCallum and Wilfred Benitez. If you'd like to read more interviews with other fighters like "Sugar" Ray Leonard and Aaaron Pryor, than please stop on over and read my new book, "Boxing's Greatest Interviews!!" by Richard Scurti. I also interviewed Ray Leonard, Aaron Pryor, Oscar De La Hoya and Sylvester Stallone about their fights and Boxing, in general. This book is Great! But, I also feel that if you want an even more well-rounded look at Boxing than also, pick up my new book, "Boxing's Greatest Interviews!!" by Richard Scurti. I feel that it's a nice companion piece to "Four Kings". Thank You.
Boxing's, Greatest Interviews!!: Boxing's Biggest Star's Speak! Ray Leonard to Oscar De La Hoya to Sylvester Stallone!
"Boxings' Greatest Interviews!!"
Memories(Rating: 5) If you are no longer interested in boxing; If Don King's world of Pay Per View and the lack of personalities in the sport have killed your interest; Please allow George Kimball to take you back to another era. If you're under 40 you probably won't believe me. Once upon a time, boxing was bigger than football.
Excellent Story of Boxing's Recent Golden Age(Rating: 4) This well researched, well written story by a journalist who was there brings us back to the great rivalries between Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Tommy Hitman Hearns and Roberto Cholo Duran.
memories of great boxers(Rating: 4) This book was especially fun to read because my son and I saw several of these fights in pay-per-view venues. These were truly special fighters.
