And the beat goes on........(Rating: 5)
For an idea of my thoughts on Muse, please refer to my previous review of BHAR. As a band, they seem to speak to something quite deep inside me - since becoming a fan I have discovered my inner revolutionary. If this is how rock and roll made kids in the fifties and sixties feel, I get why the adults were so worried. Tracks like 'The Uprising' can't fail to prod awake the rebel in all of us. Personally, I love that I can hear elements of Queen, Bon Jovi, yes, even Dr flippin' Who in this album. And yes, I know that there will be those who howl 'deriviative' and 'unoriginal'. I would beg to differ. I got the feeling that whenever the work of others was referenced, it was done so with affection, respect, and to add a new dimension both to the new work and the original. Every time I heard something that I recognised, it made me smile. However, in the three part 'Exogenesis' which finishes the album, I heard influences from Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Rhachmaninov to name but a few - what a diverse musical talent this band display! The first time I heard the first part of 'Exogenesis'(track 9: 'Overture'), I simply stared at the stereo in open-mouthed disbelief - this track is pretty much as close to musical perfection as I have ever heard. It is dramatic, sweeping, moving - wherever I instinctively wanted the music to go next, that's where it went with keychanges of heartbreaking beauty. This (and I'm sure there will be those who disagree) is a work of musical genius and for me, the highlight of the album.
Suffice it to say that I bought this album about six weeks ago and it has not left my car stereo since, even displacing BHAR which I had thought was an impossible feat. I know that there are die-hard Muse fans out there who deplore the new directions the band are exploring, but they've never really hit a properly bum note yet and at the very least are showing the true breadth and depth of their talent. And anyway, the band that doesn't evolve and try new stuff...well, that band becomes Coldplay.
RESISTANCE!

Amazing Sound(Rating: 5)
I've always like Muse's music, right back in the days of Showbiz, but when I heard Undisclosed Desires on the radio I thought it was something special. The rest of the album doesn't disappoint either - there are some magical, spacey sounds here that picks up where the last album left off. The title song is particularly good. A masterpiece of modern rock music - highly recommended.

Its a grower, but BOY does it grow!(Rating: 5)
Im a massive Muse fan. Huge in fact. I try and see them everytime they tour. You would think this would be quite boring to see teh same band over and over again but i demand to meet the person who thinks New Born live is boring and old hat. From Showbiz to The Resistance, every album (if we do out of 10) easily scores between 9 and 10, and in the case of Origin Of Symmetry 11. I have so much respect for the music Muse make, i bought the CD and not the download just so i can have the CD case pride of place in my CD collection. I have now decided only to reserve CD purchases for the truly great albums and not just the general release rubbish with 1 or 2 decent songs on the album.

Horror!!!!!!Disgust!!!!!!!!Disbelief!!!!!! This cant be!!!I have listened to the whole album and i cant stand it! Its awful. I feel let down. This is Queen 2010!

You cant blame me for saying these things as the first listen was horrendous on my ears and i was some what swayed but other reviews from NME and amazon. I put the CD in a draw for a week. How did Muse get it so wrong? In fact i got it wrong. I got it horrendously wrong and after saying these terrible things about Muse, I wondered would it ever forgive me? I was driving to work one morning and United States Of Eurasia came on the ipod at Random. That was back in January and so far i have listened to the album a good 100 times.

It is a total vear of route for Muse, synths, pop sounding at times, it is a bit queen influenced (especially United States of Eurasia) and i can personally hear the eurythmics at times. All these combined makes for a worth while experience. The symphony (exogenesis) is basic in its composistion and very familiar sounding, but i love the way it swoops during the strings. The only song i had a major issue with was Guiding Light. The first lyric kept making me cringe and i just couldnt enjoy the song, which has never happened. it reminded me of Invincible from Black Holes and Revelations which only just survived due to its finale.

This is a very good record, it has some amazing guitar rifts and ludicrous pomposity. The Resistance and MK Ultra are my personal favourites, along with Undisclosed Desire A grower most certainly and possibly the most difficult Muse album to fully appreciate. But you will appreciate it, it simply takes a bit more of a listen. The best time to listen to it is when walking or driving. Totally captivating

You can please some of the people some of the time...(Rating: 4)
Once upon a time there was a band called Muse who made an album called Showbiz, and people complained they sounded too much like Radiohead. 10 years and several evolutions later they made an album called The Resistance, and people complained they sounded too much like Queen. Well, I guess if you're going to be compared to anyone, its good to be compared to the best. To me they sound an awful lot like Muse...and any similarities to those other two bands provides more of an explanation for why I like them, rather than any reasons to dismiss them.

So yes, buy this album. Or don't.

Not a complete on...but a return to form of sorts(Rating: 4)
Ive been a muse fan for a long time. Showbiz, while not a particulary appealing album to me, immediately showed off some of the highlights of the band, and when origin of Symmetry came out, i like so many others, was blown away. Every track grabbed you, puilled you of the edge, and plunged headon into chaos, and you just screamed with excitement. But this isnt an origin reviw...and theres plenty about already, so moving on, came Absolution. It wasnt the follow up to Origin we all could have hoped for, but, lets be honest, not a band around at the moment could have had a follow up to that album that didnt sound lacklustre in comparison. But it had its tracks, so we let it slide.

Then Came Black Holes. I, like many other muse fans, and unlike many others, as always is when a band changes direction, was extremely dissapointed. The music was all there, in places, but it just didnt catch, didnt pull, and certainly didnt dive into the chaos that made Origin what it was and still is...but this isnt a BHaR review either, and im sure theres plenty of those about, so we'll get to the point of the review

This Album....well, it's taken me a while to take the plunge on it. Although i was suitably impressed with (read "didnt hate with a passion") Uprising, United States, when i heard it, made me feel they were going in the same direction asd they were with Blacl Holes; That is, away from me. I was suitably unimpresssed enough to ignore the album on the assumption that it maybe just had the one good song in Uprising, as i felt Black Holes did with Starlight (again, read "didn't hate with a passion"). Then i heard Resistance. And i was hooked, it was the first track i'd heard in a long time that had a taste of chaos in that i so loved, and when i first heard it i wasn't entirely convinced it was Muse, as it wasn't "thier" direction any more. When i couldn't ignore it any more; I mean, hes a fairly distinct voice; i assumed it was from an older album, and resolved to find this unheard gem. Until, try as i might, i couldn't deny the fact that the song was both wonderful, and on The Resistance. And so i bought it. And in that, i suppose the point of my review is to say that if you liked Resistance, go for it, the album is far more forgiving than it first seems
